Leaving the 9 to 5 behind is a lifestyle change that more and more of us are choosing to make. Some want to start their own business, some want to go freelance, some want to travel the world; whatever their desire, it starts with saying goodbye to a day job that they no longer love, and that’s where Amy Coats can help. Amy is a Corporate Exit Strategist, and we spoke to her about what her role entails, how she helps people and the lessons she has learned since starting her entrepreneurial journey. If you’re interested in becoming a consultant yourself, or you’re simply curious about leaving your 9 to 5, sit back, relax, and get ready for a peek into what it’s really like to quit your day job.
Hi Amy! Tell us about Two Week Notice Society and who it was created for.
I created Two Week Notice Society and a signature program that contains the exact steps I followed to leave my 9 to 5 and replace my 6-figure income in just 6 months. I work with ambitious and driven women who are ready to take action through a results driven experience focused on leaving their 9 to 5 and creating a life and business of love and fulfilment. I provide a step-by-step plan that you can take to leave your 9 to 5 and replace your income in six months or less. This is a system that can bring a smile to your face and bounce to your step. Trust me, I’ve smiled more just in the last few months than I ever did during my last two years in the corporate world.
You’re a Corporate Exit Strategist. Can you explain exactly what this is and what the role entails?
I created a strategy for myself that allowed me to go from 9 to 5 misery to creating multiple successful online businesses which quickly replaced and surpassed my 9 to 5 income. Now I share my strategies with my clients so they can tap into their potential and live their lives to the fullest.
Tell us about your background before you began the business. What motivated you to change direction?
I’m an Entrepreneur, Corporate Exit Strategist, CFO, and founder of Virtual COO Solutions. After 20 years in the corporate 9 to 5 world, I realised I was destined for something far more satisfying.
After much soul searching and deliberation, I realised that my 9 to 5 was limiting my ability to grow and draining the motivation and energy I took great pride in. The reality is that corporate careers aren’t for everyone. And for some, they work for a period of time until they reach the point where fulfilment and independence becomes a bottled up dream. It was happening to me and I needed to take a leap of faith, a faith in my ability to achieve, succeed, and grow.
Luckily, by some stroke of magic, I’d had an idea to try building a consulting business in my free time. My company was Virtual COO Solutions and I was just that—a remote COO for all kinds of different companies.
What has been your proudest moment in business to date?
Impacting the lives of so many women so far! I love when women are able to quit their 9 to 5 after working together. And for others, even if they are not able to quit in our time working together the amount of clarity and newfound focus on their goals is so exciting!
What’s the biggest lesson you have learned since starting your business?
To stop playing small and to go all in. I still have to remind myself of this, but I’ve gotten so much better! I’m doing my potential clients a disservice if I don’t show up and share my gifts with them.
How do you stay organised? Any tips or tools?
I use Trello to keep track of my projects between me and my team. I also use the 90x Goal Planner and LOVE it!
What do you have planned for your business and what are the next steps toward your goal?
In July I will be launching my podcast where I will be interviewing others who have left their 9 to 5 and created an online business. I will be launching a Group Coaching Program later this year that I’m super excited about!
What advice do you give those who want to leave their 9 to 5 and start a business of their own?
“Do not wait. The time will never be just right.” – Napoleon Hill
