This week I did something I’ve wanted to do since starting Desk Life Project last year… I organised our first ever networking event! The blog began as my own personal journey into self-employed life, but since then it has grown and grown, and now my mission is to turn it into more of a community where people can create connections, not just to talk about work, but also to discuss the highs and lows of self-employed life, and learn from each other.
That’s what this week’s event was all about; helping people create connections and have the conversations that we need to have in order to stay happy, healthy and productive as solo workers.
We hosted the event at IdeaSpace in Battersea, and I was thrilled to see so many people there sharing stories and listening to our panel chat about self-employed life with three super inspiring speakers; Jess Ratcliffe of Unleash Your Extraordinary, Gemma Scopes from How To Make Friends, and Julia Day from Easy as VAT.
A huge THANK YOU to these three women for being so open, honest, knowledgeable and fun on the panel – I know everyone left feeling incredibly inspired by your words of wisdom!
The best thing about these events is the opportunity to make connections and meet like-minded people, and I was thrilled to hear that so many of you came away with lots of new contacts (many an Instagram handle was swapped!)
“We don’t go after what we want, we go after what we think we can get”. Panelist Jess Ratcliffe stunned us all with this statement, and got us thinking – what do we really, really want out of our self-employed business, and out of life? We’ll be sharing more snippets from the panel talk in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
A huge THANK YOU to all of the brands who got involved in our goody bags for the event! Most notably Croissant coworking app, for sponsoring our drinks (cheers!), Joy Mumford from Simple Soulful Film for her expert photo skills, Kelsey Layne from Note and Shine for creating our bespoke notebook specially for the Desk Life Project audience, and of course the amazing team at IdeaSpace for letting us hang out in their beautiful coworking space for the evening!
To everyone who came along – THANK YOU! I felt truly grateful to be surrounded by so many wonderful people, old friends and new. I can’t wait to start organising the next event, but in the meantime, watch out on the blog for more snippets of the event, and the advice shared from our inspiring panelists – coming soon!
